L’Oréal Group: the only company in the world to have received a triple "A" rating from the CDP for the 7th consecutive year

Once again this year, the L’Oréal Group has been recognized by the CDP for its achievements in the fight against climate change, forest preservation and water management. The CDP is a non-profit organization that operates a global system for collecting and publishing environmental information. It enables investors, companies, cities, states and regions to have a clear and unbiased view of their environmental impacts in order to better manage them. The CDP is considered by the global economy as the benchmark for environmental information, with the richest and most comprehensive data set on the environmental actions of companies and cities. *

In 2022, the L’Oréal Group was awarded a triple "A" rating, the highest grade, on all three of the organization's rating criteria (climate, forests and water), alongside 12 other companies out of more than 18,700 applicant organizations. With this nomination, the L’Oréal Group is proud to be the only company in the world to have received this recognition for the seventh consecutive year. This is a true recognition that is the fruit of our labor and commitment of our teams around the world, at our sites and within our departments (R&I, packaging, purchasing, EHS, divisions and brands), to achieve these results but also to collect and organize them.

L’Oréal recognized the urgency of addressing the challenges of the global environmental crisis early on, with its first sustainability program launched in 2013. In 2020, the group entered the second phase of its sustainability program with "LOréal for the Future".

By the end of 2021, the Group was proud to have reached new levels in achieving its climate, water and forests targets:

  • 87% reduction in the carbon footprint of all industrial sites since 2005 (in tons of CO2 equivalent)
  • 94% of the natural ingredients in our formulas are traceable and come from sustainable sources.
  • - 53% reduction in water consumption in factories and distribution centers since 2005 (in liters per finished product)

More than an award, we see this as a recognition of our commitment and actions to help transform our model towards a more sustainable world. At L’Oréal, we know what’s at stake and we will do everything we can to contribute to climate action, addressing the challenges facing the world and accelerating our efforts on a global scale.

Through this fundamental transformation, we hope to be a catalyst for change in our own industry and beyond, and to inspire our consumers to act with us.

Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oréal, commented:

"We are very honored to be the only company receiving the CDP triple A rating for the seventh year in a row. This is a testimony of L’Oréal’s long-term commitment and to our ambition that our activities will be respectful of the planetary boundaries by 2030. As the world’s leading beauty company, I believe that we have a duty to lead by example. We want to leverage our scale to become a catalyst of change and mobilize all parts of our ecosystem to address the pressing climate and environmental challenges we all face. By working together, we can create the beauty that moves the world.”
