L’Oréal Australia announces 2020 Climate Edition of For Women in Science

For 2020, the For Women in Science Fellowships across Australia and New Zealand will be supporting solely women researchers tackling issues around climate change.

This direction comes as a response to the pressing importance of climate action both globally and locally. Five For Women in Science Fellowships worth $25,000 will be awarded – four for Australia and one for New Zealand. This Fellowship will award outstanding female researchers contributing to issues associated with climate change.

Women are half of our population and it is important they participate in major decisions. Women’s unequal participation in decision-making processes and labour markets compound inequalities and often prevent women from fully contributing to climate-related planning, policy-making and implementation.

The United Nation’s figures indicate that women commonly face higher risks and greater burdens from the impacts of climate change and the Paris Agreement has made specific provision for the empowerment of women, recognising that they are disproportionately impacted.
